Hose will not retract or does not retract fully

A rigid inlet connection can cause excessive binding on the shaft and hub bearings. The extra friction causes the reel to not or only partially retract the hose. A rigid connection is also one of the main causes of leaking swivels. It will also void the manufacturers warranty.

If the reel is mounted more than 5 metre high, the drive spring may not have enough strength to pull in the weight of the hose. Reduce the height of the mounted reel or contact our customer support team for advice.

if the reel is bolted down to an uneven surface, this could distort the frame causing a bind on the main support shafts thus restricting the smooth retraction of hose.

Please contact our customer service team. They are best placed to advise you on how best to re-tension your reel and remedy the problem. Please note that over-tensioning of the drive spring can lead to premature failure of the spring.

My hose reel will not retract and is locked into position (lock out).

This happens when the latch mechanism is engaged whilst the hose is fully extended and the drive spring if coiled tight with no more turns left to unlock the reel.

This can happen on certain models and it is caused by the U-bolts on the drum assembly not being in the correct position. Reposition the U-bolts in the correct position. If the problem continues, please contact our customer service team for advise.

My spring retractable reel will not lock in place properly

This could indicate a broken latch spring, a bent or won out latch pawl or a faulty/worn out latch plate. The faulty parts will. need to be replaced. Please contact our customer service team for advise.

The swivel is leaking

Verify the “O” ring material is suitable for the current application (see media compatibility chart). If needed, replace the “O” ring.

Verify if all the backup rings are in place and are in the right position. Replace – reposition where needed.

Please verify connection threads are compatible and you are using the correct thread sealant. Use sufficient thread sealant if and where required (please note that not all connections require the use of sealant). Try to tighten the connection with a wrench, but be carefull to not overtighten.

A (semi) rigid inlet connection can be a direct cause of leaking, but can also cause excessive wear on the internal “O” rings. Furthermore, it leads to excessive friction and binding on the main shaft and supporting hub and bearings. A non-flexible inlet connection void any warranty.

Please contact our customer support team for advise. Make sure the working pressure/temperature does not exceed the factory recommended pressure/temperature.
